NI house-building shows rise
House-building activity in Northern Ireland increased during the first quarter of 2004, according to the latest statistics from the National House-Building Council (NHBC).
NHBC figures for the province reveal that a total of 2,941 applications were made to start new homes during the quarter, an increase of 11% on the same period in 2003.
Tom Kirk, NHBC Director for Northern Ireland, said: "The number of registrations in Northern Ireland has shown strong growth in the first quarter of this year Our figures also show that the number of NHBC registrations increased by 40% on Q4 of 2003.
"There were 2,941 applications to start new homes in Northern Ireland in the first quarter of this year compared to 2,094 in the last quarter of 2003."
In Northern Ireland, the average anticipated selling price of new homes (registered with NHBC) during Q1 2004 was £112,000 a 9% increase on the same period the year previously. Based on actual selling prices, the proportion of homes sold for over £100,000 was 47%, an increase on the same period last year.

Northern Ireland was the only area of the UK to experience an increase in house purchase loans in the final quarter of 2011, according to new figures released today from the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) in Northern Ireland. The 2,500 house purchase loans, worth £240 million, increased 4% by number and value from the third quarter of the year.

Rise in NI unemployment figures
The number of people unemployed in Northern Ireland is on the increase according to the latest figures. Labour force statistics released on Wednesday revealed that some 46,000 people are unemployed, a rise of 3,000 on the this time last year.

Rise In Households Presenting As Homeless
The number of households presenting as homeless to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive rose by 3% to 4,895 over the period April to June 2014. This is an increase of 155 from the previous quarter. The figures are part of a report entitled 'Northern Ireland Housing Bulletin April - June 2014' published by the Department for Social Development.
