Belfast to be sole vehicle tax office open next week

Belfast will have the only Local Vehicle Licensing Office open to the public next week as the civil service staff union escalates strike action over pay.

DVLNI said it had been advised by NIPSA of continuous strike action by their members from Monday 26 April.

A spokesperson said: “As a result, our customers seeking to re-license vehicles can use the renewal reminder form issued from DVLNI in the existing 81 vehicle re-licensing Post Office branches."

The spokesperson said that for those customers who do not have a reminder form, re-licensing facilities will be available from Monday 26th April 2004 at selected Post Office branches.

"Customers buying a brand new car will be advised by their dealers who will be aware of the procedures to be followed. Registration of new or imported vehicles, not purchased through a garage, can be done by posting the application to our Headquarters, Vehicle Licensing Division, DVLNI, County Hall, Castlerock Rd, Coleraine BT51 3TA," he said.

However, no telephone re-licensing service will be available for the duration of the industrial action.

Further information is also available on the DVLNI website: www.dvlni.gov.uk or by contacting the Vehicle Enquiry Section by telephone 028 7034 1461.
