Murdered UDR soldier's memorial vandalised
A memorial to a part-time UDR soldier murdered 17 years ago by the IRA has been vandalised.
Twenty-year-old Joseph McIlwaine was shot dead in June 1987 at Aberdelgy Golf Club, near Lisburn.
The memorial is believed to have been damaged in the early hours of this morning.
Mr McIlwaine's family have travelled to the club were he worked as a greenkeeper to access the damage.
The incident comes just a few months after police reopened an investigation into his murder.
Last year Police Ombudsman, Nuala O'Loan received a compliant from Mr McIlwaine's family regarding what they believe was an insufficient investigation into his murder.
Chief Constable Hugh Orde then commissioned a review of the case following reports that a suspect named in Special Branch intelligence, as well as forensic tests relating to the gunmen, was never pursued.

During the event, he met with widows and families of PSNI and Royal Ulster Constabulary George Cross recipients who had tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.
