Dunwoody finds 'no hurdle' in entering Belfast marathon
One of Northern Ireland’s true sporting heroes will be taking on the challenge of its biggest athletics event next week.
Former champion jockey, Richard Dunwoody, has confirmed his entry into this year's Belfast City Marathon.
Fittingly, the most successful jockey in the history of National Hunt racing will be wearing number 1699 – the number of winners Downpatrick-born Dunwoody rode in his 16-year career.
Just weeks ago, Dunwoody completed the London Marathon in a time of three hours, 17 minutes 50 seconds.
“We are absolutely delighted that Richard has decided to take up the challenge of his ‘home’ marathon, and wish him and the other 10,000 or so entrants all the best for next Monday,” commented Danny O’Connor, Chairman of the Belfast City Marathon Organizing Committee.
The 23rd Belfast City Marathon, sponsored by Belfast City Council and the Ulster Pork and Bacon Forum, takes place on May 3.
The main Marathon, which once again this year will incorporate the Irish Marathon Championships, will start from the front of the City Hall at 9.30am.
The Marathon Walk and Team Relay will start at the same time, with the four-mile Fun Run following at 10am.
