SF Urged To Be 'Open And Honest' About Border Poll Plans

Sinn Féin has been urged to be "open and honest" about its "divisive border poll plans".

Speaking during a visit in L'Derry, DUP Leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson said: "The outcome of this election will be vital for the future of Northern Ireland and will determine whether we focus on growing our economy, delivering jobs and investing in our infrastructure, or whether we face months and years of instability, focusing on a divisive border poll.

"Sinn Fein Should be open and honest about its divisive border poll plans. Only 2 weeks ago they were happy to talk about their divisive border poll plan in Washington and New York to Senators and Congressmen.

"Why does Sinn Fein not want to talk about their divisive border plans in Northern Ireland? The people of NI deserve honesty from SF and it’s leaders."

Security Alert Ongoing In L'Derry

Emergency services remain at the scene of a security alert in L'Derry, which began on Monday.

Police responded to reports of a suspicious object on the Corrody Road at about 7pm last night. According to reports, a number of emergency personnel remain at the scene, with the road closed between Strabane Old Road and Kittybane Road.

It has been reported that the operation is expected to continued for "several hours".

People have been urged to avoid the area while the operation is ongoing.

Silo Fire 'Appears Accidental' – NIFRS

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has said that initial investigations suggest a fire at a silo in Dunmurry Industrial Estate in Belfast was accidental.

The fire was first reported at about 11:40am on Monday, with six appliances and some 50 firefighters attending. The fire was declared extinguished at 10:40am this morning, Tuesday 05 April.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by NIFRS have said that it appears to be accidental.

The DUP has accused the Labour Party of playing "dangerous games" if they appease Sinn Fein's divisive border poll plans. East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson said: "The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn became so absorbed into Sinn Féin's orbit that it's conference talked about "the north" rather than Northern Ireland. Little seems to have changed.
