PSNI To Send Surplus Equipment To Ukraine

The PSNI are set to send surplus safety equipment to Ukraine.

According to reports, the PSNI are preparing to send 300 ballistic vests and 50 ballistic helmets to the country, which has been under sustained Russian attack for the last six weeks.

It is understood that this is surplus equipment which had been marked for disposal.

Sports Firm Burgled In South Belfast
Police suspect a vehicle was used to break into a business in south Belfast. Thieves made off with a large quantity of sports clothing during a break in at Teamwear Ireland on Stockmans Way. Cricket equipment, three laptops, an iPad and a sum of money was also stolen. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

140 Jobs To Be Cut At Caterpillar
Construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar is to axe 140 jobs from its factories in Larne, Monkstown and west Belfast. Alliance East Antrim MLA, Stewart Dickson, said he is disappointed at the job losses and his thoughts are with the workers and their families. He said: "I hope that the job losses can be addressed through voluntary redundancy.

Coastguard warns sailors
People are being warned by the Coastguard not to go out on a boat unless they have the appropriate navigational equipment onboard. The warning follows an incident on Sunday evening when the Coastguard had difficulty rescuing six men in a speedboat off the County Down coast.

PSNI now have most up to date equipment
The PSNI have now the most up to date equipment to deal with public disorder, Security Minister Jane Kennedy has said. Ms Kennedy's comments follow the publication of the medical statement and ACPO guidance which allows the PSNI to make operational use of their new water cannons.
