Two Dixons stores to close in Northern Ireland

Dixons have announced that they are to close two of their Northern Ireland stores.

The stores in Bangor and Newry are to be closed, with the loss of 24 jobs in Bangor and eight jobs in Newry. However, Dixons, who also own Currys, PC World and The Link, are hoping to redeploy the staff to other stores.

A 90-day consultation period has begun and the stores are continuing to trade as normal. The branches in Belfast and Londonderry will remain open.

The closures in Bangor and Newry are part of plan by Dixons to close 106 stores nationwide. Dixons, who currently operate 320 stores in the UK and Ireland, will close smaller outlets over the next three months due to disappointing sales.

Around 1000 jobs will be affected by the closure, but Dixons are hoping to move many of the staff involved to other stores.

Dixons haven’t confirmed all the UK stores which are earmarked for closure, but a spokesman said that all the selected sites were within five miles of another store.
