Appeal For Information On Suspected Acid Attack In Newry
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a suspected "acid attack" in Newry city.
Police have said that the man was "assaulted by a number of people" at a housing development on the Chancellor's Road, shortly before 02:50. The man is being treated in hospital burns and a suspected broken arm.
A Volkswagen car, believed to be linked to the incident, was found burnt out on Fort Hill Road a short time later.
Anyone with any information about the attack is asked to contact police.
CAFRE Hosts Careers Day At Loughry Campus
The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) have hosted a Careers Day at their Loughry Campus to encourage students to connect with employers.
The event gave students the opportunity to meet with companies and hear about the wide range of job opportunities available in the food industry.
The Careers Day started with Guest Speaker talks from representatives from; ABP, Coca-Cola HBC, Derry Group Ireland, Dunbia, Frylite, Finnebrogue Artisan, Genesis, McColgan's Quality Foods and Mackle Food Company. The companies gave an overview of their business, discussed potential job or placement opportunities and provided useful advice on applying for roles.
A Careers Fair then followed. With the attendance by 29 companies from across Northern Ireland students were given the opportunity to network with food business employers. The college was delighted to welcome back twelve Loughry graduates who were in attendance promoting opportunities within their companies.
Commenting on the Careers Day, Shane McKinney, Head of Food Education at CAFRE said: "We are delighted with the interest shown by food businesses to attend today. Over the years we have developed connections with employers and they tell us of the value they attribute to linking with Loughry students. We aim to develop focused graduates, with the determination and aptitude to succeed in an ever changing food and drink industry."
Long Extends Appointment Of Chief Inspector Of Criminal Justice
Justice Minister Naomi Long has announced the extension of the appointment of the Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice, Jacqui Durkin, until 29 November 2024.
Durkin first took up appointment on 30 November 2019 on a three-year term.
Naomi Long said: "I am extending this appointment due to a range of factors, including the need for continuity as we seek to recover the criminal justice system and re-energise our agenda for reform. I am grateful to the Chief Inspector for committing to a further period of service."
The appointment is a full-time commitment and attracts remuneration of £112,542 per annum.

A £150,000 support package for several projects promoting the quality of local food - such as the successful Taste of Ulster scheme - has been announced by the Northern Ireland Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill. The Minister made the announcement today as she met with one of the beneficiaries of the funding support, Food NI.

Belfast food outlets to be rated online
Eating establishments in Belfast are soon to be rated on a new website to be set up by Belfast City Council. The website, which will be known as 'Scores on the Doors', will provide a facility for consumers to be able check whether the standard of the food served at the premises is up to scratch.
