Fire Crews Forced To Withdraw From L'Derry Incidents
Attacks on emergency services have been condemned after fire crews were forced to withdraw the Gallagh area of L'Derry.
According to reports, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) were called to four separate incidents between 5pm and 9pm on Monday in the Fairview Road area.
It is understood that while attending the three of the incidents, fire crews were "approached by a large group of youths", blocking them from tackling the fires and forcing them to withdraw over safety concerns.
Fire crews did not attend the fourth incident after it was established that there was no risk to property or life. It is understood that NIFRS was also advised that it was "unsafe to attend due to a risk of being approached again".

Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

NI Fire Service Attends Over 160 Incidents During Halloween
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has revealed it attended over 160 incidents during Halloween on Monday, 31 October. The emergency services received 232 calls and visited 166 incidents, representing a 47% increase on events it attended during Halloween last year.

The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.
