Road Works Contracts Worth £20m Awarded
Contracts worth almost £20 million have been awarded for a range of road resurfacing schemes across NI, Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has announced.
Phase One of the Department's interim asphalt resurfacing procurement strategy, which consists of resurfacing contracts for Magherafelt, Omagh, Dungannon, Strabane, Down as well as Newry and Mourne have been awarded.
Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd said: "This is welcome news and an important first step in improving road conditions in these six areas. I am pleased to announce this procurement exercise has been successful and that these contracts have now been awarded.
"This asphalt resurfacing work will make a significant difference to road safety and journey times, improving the lives of the people who live in these areas.
"The awarding of these contracts is an important development and I am delighted that we are one step closer to this important and much-needed work getting underway."
Work in these six areas is due to start towards the end of July.

Lidl Northern Ireland Opens Two New Stores
Lidl Northern Ireland has announced the reopening of its Stewartstown Road store in West Belfast and the opening of a new store in Carryduff. The Stewartstown Road store, which has undergone a major redevelopment, will reopen on December 5th. The new Carryduff store, Lidl’s 43rd in Northern Ireland, will open on December 12th.

Hard-Hitting Road Safety Message Delivered To Young People
Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.
