Views Sought On Future Of West Fermanagh Forests
The Forest Service is seeking input on the future development of natural forests in West Fermanagh.
Launching the public consultation, Planning forester Breandan Mulholland said: "As our forests develop as places of industry, environment and leisure, we are encouraging everyone to continue to make their feelings known. This engagement enables everyone to become involved at an early stage of the forestry planning process.
"West Fermanagh boasts some of the most iconic landscapes in Northern Ireland from the Magho Cliffs view point at Lough Navar Forest to Castle Archdale Forest on the shores of Lower Lough Erne. How we manage these forests will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
"Over recent years Forest Service have worked in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to provide recreation facilities that includes the development of walking trails, car parks and other facilities."
Forestry remains a significant source of rural employment. The forestry sector generates around £60 million per annum from timber production and sustains approximately 1,000 rural jobs across Northern Ireland.
Hit The North Festival Returns For 10th Year
Northern Ireland's street art festival, Hit The North, returned to Belfast's Union Street and Kent Street for its tenth year in 2022.
Organised by SeedHead Arts and sponsored by Hennessy NI, Arts & Business NI, Belfast One, Linen Quarter BID and CQ Bid with support from Belfast City Council, Nobletts of North Street, Graff City & Street Culture for Regions, Hit the North festival gets bigger every year.
HTN22 ended with an international street party and Belfast City Council were delighted that this included an area of the site that will become home to Belfast Stories.
Over the last decade, HTN has transformed Belfast city centre and Cathedral Quarter's visual landscape, with over 400 murals painted to date. Festival favourites joined local artists in welcoming some phenomenal international talent to Belfast for the first time.
HTN22 featured 50 local and international artists, with an array of styles and techniques on show. Festival goers enjoyed artworks being created throughout the day, alongside a series of larger murals which developed over the week.
New Climate Change And Action Qualification To Be Introduced In NI
A new climate change and environmental action qualification equivalent to a GCSE is to be introduced in NI from September.
The Department fo Education (DfE) has approved the introduction of the Reducing Carbon Footprints Through Environmental Action course, with the qualification awarded by the Open College Network, Northern Ireland (OCN NI), which will be assessed by coursework rather than exams.

Man Arrested Following Arson Attacks In South Belfast
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a number of arson attacks in south Belfast. Two cars were set on fire in the Joy Street area and another vehicle was set alight in Friendly Street in the early hours of Friday morning, 09 September.

Shots Fired At House In South Belfast
Shots have been fired at a house in south Belfast. The attack occurred at Eliza Street Terrace at around 9pm on Sunday. The shots were fired through the kitchen window, and no-one was injured in the attack. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Investigation Launched Into 'Paramilitary Style Shooting'
The PSNI have launched an investigation after a man was shot in both legs on Sunday. It is understood that a 24-year-old was in a "paramilitary style shooting" in Flax Street, north Belfast. He is being treated in hospital, where his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
