Call For More Blood Donors After Supplies Lost At Belfast Trust

The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service is urging for more blood donors to come forward after supplies were lost at the Belfast Trust.

In a Twitter post NI Blood Transfusion Service said: "APPEALING to all our eligible donors to book an appointment this week and next week. Our stocks are VERY LOW and this is being impacted by summer holidays season. We need you to donate to help deliver cancer care, care for neonatal babies and surgical appointments."

In a statement the Belfast Trust said: "As a precautionary approach we are carefully monitoring our services to mitigate any potential impact and we are liaising with NIBTS to ensure stocks are replenished.

"We currently hold enough blood across the Trust to maintain all emergency and planned surgeries."
