Murder Investigation Launched Into Disappearance Of Damien Heagney

The PSNI's Major Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation into the disappearance of 47-year-old Damien Heagney from Cookstown.

Mr Heagney was reported missing on Tuesday 19 July and police have said that they are "keeping an open mind" they now believe that he has been murdered.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Wilson said: "Damien is 47 years of age, around 5' 10" tall, of stocky build, and has links to the Tyrone area.

"While Damien was reported missing to Police on 19th July this year, we have established that he was last seen late on the 30th into the early hours of 31st December 2021 in the Dromore area outside Cookstown.

"(On) Saturday 6th August, we arrested a 50 year old male on suspicion of murder following the search of one property in the Cookstown area. He is currently helping with ongoing enquiries.

"I would appeal for anyone who has any information surrounding Damien's disappearance to contact Major Investigation Team detectives at on 101 quoting reference 1058 of 19/07/22.

"Alternatively information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Man Dies After Bus Fall In Belfast

Pedestrian Dies Following Road Traffic Collision Ikn West Belfast
A female pedestrian in her 70s has tragically died following a road traffic collision in west Belfast on Saturday, 9th November. The incident occurred on Hannahstown Hill shortly after 6:50pm when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.

Man Charged With 1994 Murder
A man has been charged with the murder of a postal worker in 1994. The 60-year-old faces a series of charges relating to the death of Francis Damien Kerr, who was shot dead when masked raiders stormed the postal sorting office in Newry, County Down on 10 November 1994. The Provisional IRA was blamed for the attack.
