Two Teenage Boys Die In Drowning Incident

Two 16-year-old boys have died in a drowning incident after getting to difficulty on Lough Enagh, L'Derry.

Emergency services were called to Temple Road at around 6.30pm on Monday.

One of the boys was taken from the water and rushed to hospital, however he was later pronounced dead.

The second boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another boy was taken to hospital to be treated, and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Inspector Brogan said: "Enquiries are ongoing into this incident, but we believe, at this stage, that this was a tragic drowning incident.

"Our thoughts are with the families of those affected."

Sinn Féin MLA Ciara Ferguson said: "My first thoughts are with the families and friends of the two teenage boys who died at Enagh Lough on Monday evening and all those involved in this incident.

"This is a tragedy. The people of Derry are in shock and in mourning today at this devastating loss of life.

"These young boys had a bright future ahead of them and were only days from going back to school. I cannot begin to imagine the heartbreak felt by their families today.

"The work and efforts of the emergency services who responded quickly to this incident and were present at the scene must be commended."

Police Investigating Two Separate Hammer Attacks
Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a hammer attack on a teenager in Ballymena. At about 3.30pm on Thursday, a boy was struck in the face with a hammer when he was attacked in the Galgorm Road area. The boy is being treated in hospital. There is no report on his condition.

Former Kincora Boys' Home Being Demolished
The former Kincora Boys' Home in east Belfast will be demolished today, Wednesday 23 November. The Home on the Newtownards Road was the site of the abuse of at least 29 young boys between its opening in 1958 and its closure in 1980.

Four Teenage Boys In Hospital After Taking Unknown Substances
Four teenage boys are being treated in a L'Derry hospital after taking unknown substances. Police are trying to determine what the boys took before they were admitted to Altnagelvin Hospital on 20 May. Three of the boys are in a stable condition. Details on the condition of the fourth boy have not been released.

SDLP Calls For 'Critical Incident Analysis' Following Death Of Ronan Hughes
The SDLP is calling for a "critical incident analysis" following the death of schoolboy Ronan Hughes. Ronan, 17, from the Coole Road area in Coalisland died on Friday 5 June. Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said there is a need to identify what happened in Ronan's case to prevent it from happening again.

Teenage Boys Arrested After Trying To Break Into Vehicles
Two teenage boys have been arrested by detectives investigating multiple reports of suspicious individuals tampering with parked vehicles and one report of theft in the Lord Warden's area of Bangor on Saturday 23rd September.
