Number Of Roads Closed As Emergency Services Tackle Belfast Blaze
A number of roads have been closed as emergency services tackle a blaze at an historic building in Belfast city centre.
In a statement posted on Twitter police said Donegall Street has been closed while emergency services deal with the fire.
A number of diversions have been put in place and motorists and pedestrians have been advised to avoid the area.
The junction of Donegall Street with Royal Avenue, York Street and Academy Street is also thought to have been closed. A spokesperson from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said: "NIFRS have been called to reports of a fire in a building at Old Cathedral Building, Belfast at 05.37 on Monday 3 October 2022.
"Eight Fire Appliances from Belfast, a Command Support Unit from Lisburn, two Aerial Appliances, 52 Fire- fighters and 5 Officers are in attendance. The incident is ongoing."

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

The Home Fire Safety Check coincides with Fire Safety Week, which runs from September 30th to October 6th. The initiative aims to reduce the number of house fires in Northern Ireland.
