Top training award for Derry Airport Fire Fighter

A senior City of Derry Airport fire fighter has been awarded a top training award at the International Fire Training School in Teesside, Co. Durham.

Fire Officer Gerard McCloskey, from Dungiven, who has been working as a fire fighter at the Airport for the past 15 years, was awarded Top Student of the Year at an awards ceremony earlier this month.

Fire Officer McCloskey completed a Watch Commander course alongside fire fighters from airports across the UK from Barra Beach Airport in Scotland to Heathrow Airport in London.

Extending his congratulations, Airport Fire Service Manager Leslie Beattie said he was delighted that one of his officers had been awarded such a prestigious award.

"This is a tremendous boost to the fire fighting team here at the Airport and we are delighted that Fire Officer McCloskey's hard work and dedication has been recognised," Mr Beattie said.
