Murder Investigation Following Discovery Of Man's Body In Antrim

A 31-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of a man's body in the Craighill area of Antrim.

The PSNI have said that they have launched a murder investigation which was "at an early stage and there are no further details at present".

Ballycastle Credit Union Awarded £92,000 In Dormant Account Funding

Ballycastle Credit Union has been awarded over £92,000 in Dormant Accounts Funding, Finance Minister Conor Murphy has announced.

Following a visit to the Credit Union, Minister Murphy said: "It was great to have the opportunity to visit the Ballycastle Credit Union and hear how the Dormant Accounts funding will help to implement a new online banking system.

"Increasingly more of our lives are accessible digitally and this valuable funding will not only benefit the Credit Union to increase their membership, as the online services can be accessed by more people, but this will also help future proof the long term sustainability of the organisation."

Brian Dillon, President of Ballycastle Credit Union welcomed the visit from the Finance Minister saying; "We are delighted to show Finance Minister, Conor Murphy, how the Dormant Accounts Funding will enable Ballycastle Credit Union to increase our digital offering to our current membership and widen our appeal to potential customers in the future."

£17m Street Lighting Investment Across NI

Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has announced a £17 million investment to upgrade street lighting across Northern Ireland.

This is the first phase of the Department's Term Contracts for Street Lighting Maintenance and Improvement Works and will cover the following Council areas: Derry & Strabane; Fermanagh & Omagh; Mid & East Antrim; Antrim and Newtownabbey; Lisburn & Castlereagh; Ards and North Down; and Newry, Mourne & Down. The contracts will commence at the end of October.

Minister O'Dowd said: "This is welcome news which will allow the Department to continue to reduce its electricity consumption through the use of energy efficient LED street lighting units and enable the replacement of aging street lighting installations. This work will also improve road safety and enhance the night time environment of people living in and travelling through these areas."

Credit Unions Get Full Deposit Protection
Credit union customers in NI are to enjoy the same protection as those at ordinary banks. The Financial Services Authority (FSA) and HM Treasury (HMT) have today jointly announced that Northern Ireland's credit union customers will have their deposits protected to the value of £85,000.

Back-To-School Costs 'Financial Burden' For NI Parents
Back-to-school costs have increased again for parents across NI, with a significant majority describing the costs as a 'financial burden'. According to the latest School Costs Survey from the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU), 78% of parents said that covering the costs of back to school is a financial burden compared to 72% in 2022.
