Police arrest man in connection with killing in Lisburn

One person has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a man's body in Co Antrim at the weekend.

A 27-year-old man is being questioned by police after the body of John Cooke, 33, was discovered at a house in the Church Road area of Lisburn at around 10.45pm on Sunday.

Police were attending to a nearby road traffic accident when a passer-by informed the officers on duty of a serious disturbance at a nearby house.

It is understood that Mr Cooke had been severely beaten and had suffered multiple injuries.

Police have ruled out any paramilitary involvement in the killing, but say they are following a definite line of inquiry.

In a follow up operation, seven homes in Belfast and Craigavon were searched and a number of items have been taken away for examination.
