Water service begins £6.6m reservoir renovation scheme
The Water Service has begun work on a £6.6 million renovation scheme on forty Service Reservoirs throughout Northern Ireland.
Trevor Haslett, Water Service’s Director of Development, said the work was being undertaken as part of a significantly increased capital investment programme to deliver improvements to customers through modernising Water Service infrastructure.
"Service Reservoirs are effectively large tanks used for storing treated water prior to distribution to customers," Mr Haslett said. "The work is necessary for safety and public health reasons to ensure that a high level of security of water supplies is maintained.
"It includes the structural strengthening of some reservoirs, repairing concrete walls and roofs and replacing the existing watertight jointing systems."
Work on the project is expected to take around 40 weeks to complete and has been planned to ensure that customers will not be affected by interruptions to their water supply.
Anyone who is concerned with possible interruptions can contact the Water Service Waterline on 08457 440088 for further information.
