UTV announce Dublin radio expansion plans
UTV has announced plans to introduce an 'alternative rock' station for listeners in Dublin.
The Belfast-based company hope to build on the success of the Xfm brand by launching it in Ireland's capital.
UTV, and its partners Britain's Capital Radio and Europe's Absolute Radio International, announced the news just days after the TV company announced it would be bidding for a new radio licence to be introduced in Belfast next year.
John McCann, Group Chief Executive, UTV said: "Given UTV's expertise within Irish media and our specific understanding of the Dublin radio market as an existing licence holder, we believe that our proposition to introduce the definitive alternative rock brand Xfm to Dublin is sure to be a winner with local listeners.
"Backed up by the solid financial strength of two major broadcasting companies UTV and Capital Radio, this application ensures sustainability for a new radio station in this very competitive market."
Xfm’s Managing Director Graham Bryce added: "This license provides a fantastic opportunity to extend the Xfm brand into the Dublin market. The combined strength of the Xfm brand, our unrivalled expertise in this format of radio and our partners local knowledge will enable us to create something truly unique for Dubliners.”
UTV 's current radio output in Dublin includes Q102, 96fm and 103fm as well as Cork's Live 95fm and Limerick's Juice FM.
