Warning Issued Over Dangers Of Fires Caused By e-Bikes & e-Scooters
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) have issued a warning about the dangers of fires caused by e-bikes & e-scooters.
The NIFRS said they have seen a rise in fires caused by scooter or e-bikes that have been left on charge. Many e-bikes & e-scooters use lithium-ion batteries which can catch fire quickly.
The NIFRS provided a number of safety tips to help prevent e-bike/e-scooter fires:
• Buy from reputable retailers
• Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging, storing & handling your battery
• Only use the original manufacturer’s charger
• Never use charging strips or extension cords
• Never leave them to charge unattended or overnight
• Never leave plugged in when it is not charging
• Avoid charging or storing in extreme temperatures
• Handle with care – keep away from water
• Do not modify or attempt to repair your battery.

Appeal Following Arson Attack In L'Derry
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information following a serious arson attack in the Clon Dara area of L'Derry on Saturday, 23 November. Shortly before 8.20pm, police received a report that an accelerant had been used to ignite the front door and letterbox of a house in the area.

Smoking Is Biggest Cause Of Accidental Fire Deaths In NI
Smoking is the biggest cause of accidental fire deaths in Northern Ireland, according to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS). There have been 53 accidental fire deaths over the past five years and 22 of these were as a direct result of smoking materials.

NIFRS Warning Over Chimney Fires
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is reminding the public of the dangers of chimney fires, after it attended 1,762 such fires last year, representing just over 7% of all incidents in 2013. Chimney Fire Safety Week begins today, and the NIFRS is reminding the public to ensure chimneys are swept and cleaned regularly.
