Poster competition highlights Council’s anti-drugs message
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Martin Morgan has hosted a special prize giving ceremony for Primary Seven pupils today following an anti-drugs poster competition.
More than 200 children entered the competition which aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse among young people across the city.
Twelve winning entries are to be featured in a 2005 calendar, commissioned by the Council’s All Party Working Group on Drugs Misuse, as well as used in a postcard campaign following the competition.
The entries tackled a wide range of drugs and other substances, including smoking and alcohol.
The winners came from four schools – Cranmore Integrated and St. Anne’s in south Belfast, Harding Memorial in Cregagh and St. Therese de Liseux on the Antrim Road.

A major ad campaign has been launched urging the public to report drug dealing to Crimstoppers. The campaign, which will feature viral videos alongside bus, adshel, online and radio advertising, aims to highlight the damage drugs do to individuals, families and communities.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

NI entrants top National Training Awards
Twenty Northern Ireland entrants in this year’s National Training Awards competition have won prizes for excellence. During a ceremony at Belfast City Hall yesterday evening, a total of 30 National and Regional Awards were presented to employers, individuals, partnerships and training organisations.

Belfast Hit By 10 Drug-Related Deaths In December
The last month has seen 10 suspected drug-related deaths in the greater Belfast area, sparking concern across the community. PSNI Detective Superintendent Bobby Singleton said while the cause of death is not definitively known, the use of illicit or prescription drugs may have been a factor.
