Five New Cancer Support Centres To Be Established Across NI

Five new cancer support centres are to be established across Northern Ireland, Cancer Focus has announced as part of a five-year plan aligned with the Northern Ireland Cancer Strategy.

Welcoming the announcement, Alliance Health Spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA said: "I very much welcome the determination of Cancer Focus to engage proactively in ensuring that therapeutic support is available for those from the outset of their cancer journey, as well as increasing awareness of how to reduce risk. The regional centres show a determination to ensure no one is left behind and everyone has access to support.

"This five-year plan not only dovetails nearly with the Cancer Strategy, but also with the principles of Health and Social Care Transformation as set out by the Expert Panel chaired by Prof Rafael Bengoa.

"Clearly, the plan would be of even greater impact if we had a Health Minister able to ensure the Cancer Strategy is taken forward swiftly. It is very welcome, however, that a local strategy is taking such positive and constructive steps, which will provide significant support to so many people over the coming years."

UCF Targets Cancer Awareness
The signs and symptoms of Northern Ireland's biggest cancer killer are being highlighted by a local charity this week with the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) using national 'Lung Cancer Awareness Month' as a springboard to target local people.
