Annual 'Day Of Reflection' To Acknowledge NI Conflict
Belfast City Council has announced that City Hall will host a 'Day of Reflection' on Wednesday, 21 June – to provide an opportunity for people and communities across the city to acknowledge the deep hurt and pain caused by the conflict in and about Northern Ireland.
The event will follow the same format as that held at the venue for the first time in 2022 and offer an opportunity for quiet reflection.
There will also be a 'drop in' programme of activities between 10am and 4pm.
Party Group Leaders on Belfast City Council said: "The Council will once again participate in this year's Day of Reflection and will offer a space in City Hall for this to take place.
"We acknowledge that many people throughout the city suffered deeply as a result of the conflict.
"As civic leaders, we hope that by hosting this annual event and providing a quiet, safe space, it will give people an opportunity to reflect and remember in a way which is personal to them."
The Day of Reflection will start at 10am with the screening of a short film by local organisation, Healing Through Remembering.
The film will be repeated on the hour, every hour until the event closes at 4pm. There will also be poetry and prose readings throughout the day.
Attendees will also be invited to share their hopes for the future by adding a leaf, with a personal message, to a 'Thought Tree', throughout the day.
A number of support organisations will also be in attendance and City Hall will be illuminated in yellow on the evening of Wednesday 21 June.

Marathon To Run On Bank Holiday
In spite of pressure from various sides, the 2011 Belfast City Marathon will not be held on a Sunday. It was agreed at a City Council meeting this week that it would continue on May Day, after over plans to move the race from its traditional May Day Bank Holiday to the prior Sunday were opposed.

A successful scheme aimed at transforming vacant properties in Belfast city centre into thriving businesses is set to be extended across the entire city. Belfast City Council's Vacant to Vibrant programme has already breathed new life into 26 properties, with another six sites in the pipeline.

St Patrick's Day event has support of BCC says councillor
The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.

Union Flag Raised Over City Hall
The union flag has been raised over Belfast City Hall to mark the Duchess of Cambridge’s 31st birthday. The flag was raised following a sixth consecutive night of rioting and violence from loyalist protesters, who are angry at the council’s decision to restrict the flying of the union flag in line with the rest of the UK.

Orangefest Celebrations Set For July 12 At Belfast City Hall
A whole host of family fun activities is planned to take place at Belfast's City Hall in conjunction with the annual parades to commemorate The Twelfth. Created to complement the July 12 parades, Orangefest 2024 will take place from 10am-4pm at both Belfast City Hall and surrounding areas in Royal Avenue.
