Potholes Must Be Repaired To A Satisfactory Standard - Alliance
Belfast City Council is to write to the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) after complaints from residents in relation to pothole repairs.
Alliance Lisnasharragh Councillor Michael Long has questioned the standard of repairs to potholes following multiple attempts being made to the same pothole.
He said: "We need assurances about how repairs are being signed off and that they are made to a satisfactory standard, providing value for money.
"Potholes represent a real danger to motorists and pedestrians and surely in a time of enormous budget cuts, we should be ensuring maximum cost-effectiveness.
"Some of the quality of the repairs calls into question whether anyone from the Department for Infrastructure is actually responsible for the sign-off of these repairs. We urgently need clarification on this, as recent failures point to duplication and a drain on resources."

War graves have been damaged and vandalised at Belfast City Cemetery. A member of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who tends to the upkeep of war graves, has described the attacks, which left one headstone smashed and 14 others damaged, as "deeply distressing".

Families return home following gas leak
Around 50 families have returned home after a gas leak in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast was repaired on Tuesday. Families in and around the area had been forced to leave their homes as fire crews investigated the leak close to New Barnsley police station.
