Man Charged With Attempted Murder Dies In Custody
A man charged with attempted murder has died in custody.
42-year-old James Carlisle, from the Harbour Road in Kilkeel, was due to appear in court next week.
It is understood his death is not being treated as suspicious.
In a statement the NI Prison Service said: "The Northern Ireland Prison Service can confirm the death in custody yesterday of a 42-year-old man.
"His next of kin has been informed.
"As is standard practice, the PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed.
"The Prison Service would like to extend its sympathy to the family of the man at this difficult time."

Over 5,000 people have applied for 200 custody officer jobs in Northern Ireland’s Prison Service- none of the applicants are the prison officers who are taking early retirement. This news follows pleas to the Justice Minister David Ford for a guarantee that retiring prison officers would not be eligible to apply for the new jobs.

Prison Services Launch Recruitment Drive
The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) has today launched a recruitment campaign for new Custody Officers. It expects to recruit up to 200 officers to this new grade within the Prison Service. NIPS Director General Colin McConnell has described the launching of the recruitment campaign as a key milestone in building a new Prison Service.

Prisoner Dies At Maghaberry
A prisoner has died in custody at Maghaberry jail. The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) said the 57-year-old man passed away on Thursday morning, 28 September. His next of kin have been informed and an investigation has been launched.

Lock-up Was Factor In Prisoner's Death
The practice of locking up prisoners for almost all of the day has been identified as a major factor in a recent spate of custody suicides. The issue has come to light after a teenage prisoner - who was locked in his cell for around 22 hours a day because of short-staffing - committed suicide.
