81-Year-Old Arrested For Sexual Offences Against Children

An 81-year-old has appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court charged in connection with a number of non-recent sexual offences against children in Northern Ireland dating back to the 1970s.

The man was extradited to Belfast from Canada on Friday 15th September and arrested by the PSNI's International Policing Unit on an international warrant.

The man was wanted by the PSNI on suspicion of a number of non-recent sexual offences against children in Northern Ireland dating back to the 1970s.

Welcoming the arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Jill Duffie said: "The arrest is an another example of partnership working between Canadian authorities and the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit.

"Our message is clear that we will relentlessly pursue those who are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime."

An 81-year-old man has been jailed for three years for a number of historic sexual offences. David Parkinson, from Bangor, Co Down, was sentenced at Dungannon Crown Court for 12 offences including gross indecency, indecent assault and rape. The offences were committed between 1976 and 1983.
