NIFRS Welcomes New 24/7 Crisis Line For Firefighters
A new crisis line, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, has been launched to tackle suicide amongst present and past fire and rescue service personnel across UK Fire & Rescue Services.
The Crisis Line, announced by the Fire Fighters Charity at the Emergency Services Mental Health Symposium in Manchester, is supported by HRH The Prince of Wales and The Royal Foundation. It aims to provide essential and immediate help to members of fire and rescue services personnel at a point of crisis.
The new 24/7 Crisis Line is the result of a collaborative partnership between the National Fire Chiefs Council and The Fire Fighters Charity.
Initially, it will be funded by the Blue Light Card Foundation (BLCF) for its first year and will receive support from all fire and rescue services for the following two years.
It complements the comprehensive online suicide prevention and postvention resources released by The Fire Fighters Charity in September.
The resources are aimed at helping members of the fire services community affected by suicide or worried about their own or someone else’s mental health.
The Crisis Line can be reached on 0300 373 0896.
