DUP and SF claim two of three MEP seats
The DUP and Sinn Fein have secured the first two out of three possible MEP seats at this year's European Elections.
The DUP's Jim Allister topped the poll with 175,761 first preference votes while Sinn Fein's Bairbre de Brun secured 144,541 votes.
Ms de Brun is the first Sinn Fein candidate to take one of Northern Ireland's seats at the European parliament.
The third and final MEP has yet to be elected, however it is a straight fight between Jim Nicholson of the Ulster Unionist Party who polled 91,164 first preference votes and the SDLP's Martin Morgan who secured 87,559 votes.
Independent John Gilliland polled 36,270, Eamonn McCann of the Social Environmental Alliance on 9,172 and Green Party candidate Lindsay Whitcroft on 4,810 votes.
Counting of the votes got under way at 9am in Belfast on Monday, with a team of 300 people involved in the count.
Some 554,744 voters took part in the election last Thursday to decide which of the seven candidates should take the province's three seats.
Ballot papers from all over Northern Ireland were packed into 120 boxes at the King's Hall where they were held at a secure location over the weekend.
