DUP Accuse Alliance Of 'Abandoning Consensus Politics To Exclude Unionists'
The DUP has accused the Alliance Party of abandoning consensus politics to exclude unionists.
Making the claim, DUP East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell said: "The Alliance Party settled for a bad deal and were quite content to 'rigorously implement' the NI Protocol even though not one unionist MLA backed it.
"It was the DUP who stood strong and pressed for a better deal for Northern Ireland. Indeed, for two years when we were working within the NI Executive, the Alliance Party, rather than supporting our calls for a better deal, mocked our calls.
"The only reason unionists had to call time on devolution operating was because Brussels wasn't listening. The Alliance Party contributed to that and ignored the fact that not one unionist MLA backed the Protocol.
"Northern Ireland only makes progress when unionists and nationalists are on board. Whilst the Alliance Party dismiss unionist concerns, they should at least be honest with the electorate because no one can recall the Alliance Party calling for an Executive to be formed without nationalists when SF walked out in their failed attempt to break Unionist resolve."
