Appeal Following Robbery And Attempted Hijacking In Belfast
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a robbery and attempted hijacking in Belfast City Centre on Saturday, 09 March.
It was reported to police, that at around 9.45pm, a delivery driver was parked in the Donegall Place area, when an unknown man has approached his vehicle and opened the door, armed with a blade and a sharpened piece of metal.
The victim reported that the suspect held the weapon to his face and told him to get out of the car. The suspect sat down in the driver's seat and lifted a sum of money from the dashboard, before a struggle ensued.
The suspect fled on foot in the direction of City Hall. The injured party did not report any physical injuries, however, he has been left shaken by the ordeal. Significant damage was also caused to the vehicle during the incident.
Detective Sergeant McCartan said: "The suspect is described as being aged in his mid 20s to 30s, of average height and build, with a stubbly brown moustache and wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a jacket with the hood up.
"Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have dashcam, CCTV or other video footage. The number to call is 101, quoting reference 1557 of 9/3/24."

A1 Reopens After Lorry Fire
The A1 is now open following a lorry blaze close to the coach works at Banbridge Road, Dromore, this morning. It was closed in both directions after the driver reported smelling fumes from his cab and pulling over to find the vehicle in flames. No one was hurt in the incident. The road is now fully open.

According to police, a masked man is reported to have forced his way into a home in Caw Close at around 1.45am, armed with what was reported as an axe.
