Healthy Happy Minds Pilot Project Independent Report Published
The Department of Education has published an independent evaluation of the Healthy Happy Minds pilot project, which was introduced to provide therapeutic and counselling support in primary schools and test approaches which would help inform provision in the longer-term.
Welcoming the publication, Education Minister Paul Givan said: "Looking after the emotional health and wellbeing of our children is a key priority for me and is one that underpins my Department's vision that every child will be happy, learning and succeeding. The benefits of early intervention in the right place and by the right people, are widely accepted to improve outcomes for children and young people.
"That is why it is important for me to now take the time to consider the Healthy Happy Minds evaluation, along with wider research and feedback from stakeholders in developing the Department's longer-term approach to supporting pupil emotional health and wellbeing in conjunction with health colleagues and professionals."
The Healthy Happy Minds pilot service ran in primary schools from November 2021 until March 2023.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services
Sinn Féin has called for more to be done to improve mental health services across the north of Ireland. The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.

A new pilot scheme to support therapeutic and counselling services in primary schools has been announced by Education Minister Michelle McIlveen. The Healthy Happy Minds pilot service will include all primary schools, special schools with a primary cohort and primary EOTAS provision and will run until the end of March 2022.

Over £7.5m Announced For School Mental Health Programmes
More than £7.5 million has been announced for the extension of the Engage and Health Happy Minds programmes in NI's schools. Education Minister, Michelle McIlveen has announced a further £6.9 million investment in the Engage III and £1.75 million for the Healthy Happy Minds programmes.

An additional £2.25 million is to be invested in the Healthy Happy Minds programme, which provides counselling and therapeutic support services for primary school pupils, Education Minister Michelle McIlveen. The funding will allow the programme to continue in the next academic year, with funding guaranteed until the end of 2022 at this stage.
