Ulster University Belfast Campus Named NI Building Of The Year
The new Ulster University Belfast Campus has been named the Northern Ireland Building of the Year, by the Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA).
Awarded the Liam McCormick prize, the £364 million campus, stacked 14 floors high in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter, was designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, with McAdam Design, Scott Tallon Walker and White Ink Architects. The project also received the Living Places Award, which honours developments that excel in placemaking.
The judges noted how 'the complex, expansive brief has been accommodated on a challenging, irregular site through the architects' intelligence and skill' and how the project is 'socially, economically, and culturally important both to Belfast itself and to the very idea of 'city'.'
The RSUA Design Award Gala Dinner took place in The MAC Belfast, designed by Hackett Hall McKnight, which itself was awarded a prestigious RIBA National Award in 2012 and nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
Stena Line To Continue Its Belfast Giants Sponsorship For 2024/25 Season
Stena Line has announced that it continue as title sponsor with Belfast Giants for the 2024/25 season.
Steve Thornton, Group Head of Commercial and Hockey at The Odyssey Trust, said: "We're incredibly proud to welcome back Stena Line as our title sponsor for the 2024/25 season. For over a decade, Stena Line's support has been invaluable, and I'm very much looking forward to working alongside the team throughout the upcoming season."
Stena Line first pledged its support for the Belfast Giants as title sponsor ahead of the 2011/12 season, during which the Giants were crowned Elite Ice Hockey League champions – one of 10 titles accrued throughout the multi-year partnership to date.
Orla Noonan, Travel Commercial Manager, Irish Sea at Stena Line, commented: "Stena Line is thrilled to continue its long-running sponsorship with the Belfast Giants, for what will be our 13th season working in partnership. It's been a pleasure to work with the Belfast Giants for the past 12 years, and it has been a joy to watch the team become one of the most successful in Northern Europe.
"On behalf of Stena Line, I would like to wish the Belfast Giants the best of luck for the season ahead. I'm sure it will be another memorable one for the Teal Army, and of course, we will be with you every step of the way."
The relationship between the Belfast Giants and Stena Line extends back to 2008, with the ferry company regularly transporting players, supporters, and visiting teams throughout the UK.
Reform Essential To Allow Stormont To Deliver – Alliance
The Alliance Party has said that reform of Northern Ireland's political institutions are "essential to allow Stormont to deliver fully for the people".
Alliance Chief Whip and South Belfast MLA Paula Bradshaw said that while good work had happened since the Assembly and Executive returned 100 days ago, more could have been done if not for the two years of an impasse caused by the DUP collapsing power-sharing.
She continued: "Nobody in the Assembly is under any illusions – our institutions cannot deliver everything we would like due to competing priorities and financial pressures.
"But the hard work of delivery has been compromised by one fact. We are sitting 100 days into the new mandate, when we should be two years into it. That is two years of wasted time, which could and should have ben used to deliver for the people of Northern Ireland.
"That once again underlines the pressing need for reform of our institutions. Never again can we see one party collapsing everything and paralysing our entire system, leaving our population without a functional and locally-elected government.
"But now are 100 days in and we must see delivery. There was significant goodwill given towards Sinn Féin and the DUP when devolution was restored, but many of the issues requiring action have mounted up on their desk, with little evidence of real action.
"The photo opportunities have gone well but actual delivery has been scant. There is a lot of work to catch up on. Two years of paralysis has made the need for transformation and delivery all the more pressing. It’s time people got what they voted for."
