65-Year-Old Man Jailed For Killing His Wife In 2020
A 65-year-old man has been jailed for the murder of his wife in August 2020.
At Belfast Crown Court, Gary Baird, pleaded guilty to killing his wife Susan (60) in an attack at their south Belfast home.
Baird was was sentenced to serve seven years, three in custody and four on licence, for manslaughter by way of diminished responsibility.
Welcoming the sentencing, Detective Inspector Jennifer Rea said: "The investigation began with the defendant reporting his actions to police. While proceedings have concluded with today's sentencing, I know that the couple's children, wider family and friends remain submerged in sorrow. My sincere thoughts are with them."

Man Dies After Bus Fall In Belfast
Detectives are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man who fell from a bus in Belfast. Police have said that they believe the man was travelling on a 2J Translink Metro bus service at around 11:15am on Friday, 08 November, when he suffered a fall as the bus travelled along Royal Avenue, near it's junction with North Street.

Attempted Carjacking In West Belfast
Police are investigating an attempted carjacking in west Belfast on Tuesday, November 19th. At around 5:30pm, a man entered a parked car at Hillhead Court and attempted to steal it. A woman passenger was assaulted when she resisted the man's demands. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s wearing all black, fled the scene on foot.

The man is accused of assault causing harm, coercive control, contravention of a safety order, theft, and possession of a weapon. The alleged offences occurred in the Monaghan area between 2020 and 2021.
