Minister launches fire safety consultation
Finance Minister Ian Pearson has launched a 12-week consultation on proposals for amendments to Part E of the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000, dealing with fire safety.
Mr Pearson said the proposed measures would bring Northern Ireland into line with regulations in England and Wales.
“These proposals are aimed at reducing the risks faced by both the occupants of buildings and by fire fighters in the event of an outbreak," the Minister said. "They have the potential also to reduce the extent of fire damage to property, with consequential environmental benefits.
“The changes will take into account harmonised standards and supporting European fire tests. They will also reflect changes to British Standards and other references, bringing this area of Northern Ireland’s Building Regulations into technical harmony with those of England and Wales.”
Mr Pearson added that Building Regulations exist to secure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people in or around buildings and to further the conservation of fuel and power.
The consultation, which begins today, will end on September 30.

NIFRS Launches Online Home Fire Safety Check Tool
