Appeal For Witnesses After Cyclist Injured In Bangor
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses after a woman, aged in her 50s, required hospital treatment after being knocked off her bicycle.
The woman was cycling on the Bloomfield Road in Bangor at around 8.45am on Tuesday, 06 August, when she came off her bicycle after being overtaken by a black Vauxhall Corsa.
A short time later, police arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of a number of driving offences including careless driving causing grievous bodily injury. He is currently in police custody.
Sergeant Fisher said: "The cyclist sustained injuries which, thankfully, do not appear to be as serious as first thought. She remains in hospital for treatment.
"The Bloomfield Road was closed for a time while we carried out enquiries, but has since re-opened.
"We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have seen either the cyclist or the car in the area, to contact us.
"Anyone with any dash-cam or other footage that could assist with the investigation is also asked to contact officers on 101, quoting reference 287 of 06/08/24."

PSNI Maintain Visible Presence In North Belfast
The PSNI have maintained a presence in north Belfast following a number of incident overnight.
It is understood that a number of masked men were in the area attacking homes and busnesses.
Three men, aged 26, 28 and 41 years, were arrested on suspicion of offences including criminal damage and remain in custody at this time.
Superintendent Allister Hagan said that he wanted to reassure local residents that police would maintain a visible presence in the area and urged anyone with information, including images and videos, to submit them to the through the Major Incident Public Portal at Public Portal.
SF Calls On Govt To Increase Childcare Subsidy
Sinn Féin has called on the British government to increase the subsidy for childcare providers to make childcare more affordable.
The party's spokesperson on childcare and early years, Cathy Mason, said: "Childcare providers are struggling to keep their doors open due to increased operating costs, and difficulties faced recruiting and retaining workers.
"I have written to the British Chancellor urging her to increase the rate of tax-free childcare savings from 20% to 30%.
"This would provide a huge boost in helping providers to stabilise their finances and to make childcare more affordable for workers and families.
"I'll continue to press the British government to help deliver high quality, affordable childcare for all."
