Man Arrested In Connection With Attempted Arson Of Ards Mosque

A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attempted arson of a mosque in Greenwell Stree, Newtownards, in the early hours of Saturday, 10 August.

Following a search operation of two properties in Ards on Sunday, 11 August, the man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted arson, possessing a petrol bomb, and attempted intimidation.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Police have said that enquiries are continuing and anyone with any information or footage that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 53 of 10/08/24.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Second Man Arrested In Connection With Ards Mosque Attack
PSNI detectives investigating the attempted arson of a mosque in Newtownards have arrested a second man. The attack occurred in Greenwell Street in the early hours of Saturday, 10 August. A 42-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 11 August, in connection with the attack. He has since been released on police bail.

Attempted Arson Attack In Newry
Police have launched an investigation in connection with an attempted arson attack at a flat in Newry. The incident occurred at a property on Cleary Crescent at around 9.15pm on Monday. A flammable liquid was poured through the door from a plastic bottle which was placed at the door and set on fire. Damage was caused to the door.

Former Headmaster Jailed For Child Sexual Abuse
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of an 89-year-old Belfast man for a significant number of non-recent sexual abuse offences. At Laganside Crown Court, Paul Dunleavy was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, to start in May 2026 at the conclusion of his current sentence.
