Sinn Féin Praises Positive Events Organised By Féile Derry

Sinn Féin has commended Féile Derry for organising a full schedule of positive community events in the Bogside, Creggan and surrounding areas.

The party's Foyle MLA, Pádraig Delargy, said hundreds of people have attended the positive events as he noted that the 'unacceptable' burning of flags on bonfires must stop now.

In a statement, Pádraig Delargy said: "Hundreds of people have attended positive community events across the Bogside, Creggan and surrounding areas over recent days. I want to commend Féile, and other community festivals, for leading the way and bringing our communities together and looking to the future through arts, sports, music, debate and culture.

"That is the image of the Bogside that should be projected around the world, because we have much to celebrate, and to build on in the future. Once again, we have seen the burning of flags on bonfires – this is unacceptable, disrespectful and there is no place for these displays anywhere in our society.

"They are in stark contrast to the positive work that is being done in the community to showcase everything that is good about Derry and its people."
