Health Minister Urged To Withdraw Public Health Bill Consultation
DUP Health Spokesperson Diane Dodds has called on Health Minister Mike Nesbitt to introduce a new consultation paper on the Public Health Bill.
In her letter, Dodds points out unclear and imprecise language within the current document and raises concerns about the Minister's remarks regarding the mandatory vaccination component of the proposals. She argues that revisiting the consultation would benefit all parties involved. In the letter she said: "A new document would benefit from being more precise with greater detail on suggested interventions and the specific circumstances in which they might be deployed. There is little positive to be gained from consulting on areas which have no prospect of securing Executive or Assembly approval. In shaping a new consultation, the Department should be mindful of the concerns that have been expressed around individual liberty, and the checks and balances between the power of Government and personal freedom and choice."
