Four new Equality Commissioners appointed
Secretary of State Paul Murphy has announced the appointment of four new Equality Commissioners.
The new commissioners are: Tony Carlin, Trade union official with the Irish National Teachers Organisation; Una Gillespie, Co-ordinator of the West Belfast Economic Forum; Thomas McGrath Current board member of Disability Action and Equality 2000 committee member (previous chairperson); and Paul Yam Director, Wah Hep Chinese Community Association.
Mr Murphy welcomed the new Commissioners, saying they would bring a broad range of skills and expertise to the Equality Commission.
"I am delighted to make these new appointments. The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland has an enormously important task, to which these new Commissioners will bring a great deal of talent and expertise," he said.
He also praised the contribution of the Commissioners whose terms are due to expire.
"Harry Coll, Margaret Logue, Harry McConnell and Bob Osborne have given a great service to the Equality Commission," Mr Murphy said.
"Their commitment and expertise has been invaluable to the establishment and growth of the Commission and we are all deeply grateful."
The new Commissioners will take up appointment on August 1 2004.

Two New Belfast Harbour Commissioners Appointed
Two city councillors have been appointed to the Belfast Harbour Commissioners. Belfast City Council's Patrick Convery and Danny Lavery will replace predecessors incumbent Lord Mayor Tom Hartley and councillor Alban Maginness. Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, has welcomed the appointments.

Former RTE D-G is new chief of Equality Commission
The Secretary of State Peter Hain has confirmed the appointment of Bob Collins as the new Chief Commissioner of the Equality Commission. A former Director-General of RTE, Mr Collins will succeed Dame Joan Harbinson who retires at the end of July.

New Parades Commissioners Sought
The Northern Ireland Secretary has announced a process to recruit a new five-member Commission to adjudicate sensitive parades. The term of the current Parades Commission members is due to end on 31 December 2013, however Theresa Villiers said new members may be found sooner if a decision can be made during the Haass talks.
