Minister Launches Consultation On Low-Carbon Heating Support
Economy Minister Conor Murphy has initiated a public consultation aimed at gathering feedback on potential government support for low-carbon heating technologies in residential buildings.
The consultation seeks input from stakeholders to inform the development of future policies and guidelines related to the design, regulations, and incentives for low-carbon heating systems. This includes exploring options for financial assistance, technical support, and consumer education to encourage the adoption of sustainable heating solutions.
The consultation is open to individuals, businesses, and organizations interested in shaping the future of low-carbon heating in Northern Ireland.
Minister Murphy said: "Decarbonisation is key to my economic plans. Our heavy reliance on fossil fuels to heat our homes creates carbon emissions and leaves us vulnerable to global price rises.
"Low carbon heating technologies provide a reliable, sustainable and clean energy source. They emit lower carbon emissions compared to fossil-fuels such as natural gas and oil boilers. Low carbon technologies also enable us to become self-sufficient in affordable renewable energy."
Turning to how the introduction of low carbon technologies can also generate economic prosperity, the Minister continued: "The early adoption of low carbon heating technologies will act as a catalyst for our green economy. By stimulating a strong local renewables market, we can create the conditions for businesses to develop the skills and technologies to provide low carbon heating solutions on a global scale which presents huge economic opportunities."
In conclusion the Minister said: "The aim of NI Energy Strategy is to deliver a local renewable energy market that is affordable, secure and sustainable. It’s vitally important that we engage all interested parties in the design and development of policy in this area so that it is fit for purpose now and for future generations."

DAERA Minister Confirms Commitment to Deposit Return Scheme
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir has reaffirmed his commitment to introducing a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in Northern Ireland. The DRS is designed to encourage recycling by offering a monetary incentive for returning single-use drinks containers. The scheme will cover PET plastic, steel, and aluminium containers ranging from 150ml to 3 litres.

The Minister's engagement began with a meeting with Nadhim Zahawi, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster during which Minister Murphy outlined the need for the Executive to be restored.

UUP Calls For Action On Pricing Of Heating Oil
The UUP has called for action on establishing fair pricing on small containers of home heating oil. Ulster Unionist Party Leader Doug Beattie MC MLA called on retailers who sell home heating oil in small containers to price them at the same cost per unit as is charged to those who buy larger amounts which are delivered via tankers.
