69-Year-Old Extradited From Spain To Face Child Abuse Charges
A 69-year-old man has been extradited from Spain to stand trial Northern Ireland for child-related sexual offences that occurred in the mid-1980s and early 1990s.
The man, originally from the Newry area, was initially arrested in Spain on 3rd May 2024 and extradition proceedings have now been completed with his successful return to Northern Ireland.
Upon his return to NI, the man appeared before Laganside Magistrates' Court where he was remanded in prison. Sergeant Davey from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit said: "This demonstrates our continued and effective working with our international partners to track down wanted persons and bring offenders to justice.
"In this case we worked closely with the National Crime Agency and the Spanish Policia Nacional to complete this arrest and extradition.
"Our message is clear to anyone who has left Northern Ireland to avoid arrest or the consequences of their actions – we will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime.
