NI wireless technology sector address Dublin seminar
Leading figures from Northern Ireland’s wireless technology sector have addressed a Dublin business audience to outline future opportunities in the area.
At a breakfast seminar today, Denis Murphy, of Mobile Cohesion, and Martin Bradley, of Axis Three, demonstrated the potential of the state-of-the-art technology developed in their companies.
The seminar was an opportunity to showcase expertise of NI companies in the area of third generation (3G) wireless technology and highlight the growing strength of the sector in the north.
It is estimated that service revenues from 3G networks will reach some £173 billion by 2010, £126 billion of which will be generated by new mobile data services.
Professor Terri Scott, Managing Director of Entrepreneurship with the event's sponsors Invest NI, said: “Northern Ireland is fast becoming a centre of excellence in this area. We have significant expertise available in the universities and a highly developed telecoms infrastructure which makes it the ideal place for setting up and developing this type of business."
The success of the wireless internet will be largely dependent on the variety, quality and attraction of the applications available to the users.
The breakfast seminar was also supported by Investnet and Wireless Wednesday.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services

The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.
