Man Arrested After Knife Threats In Dunmurry
Police in west Belfast have arrested a 23-year-old man following reports of a man armed with knives in Dunmurry on Tuesday, 25 February.
At approximately 10:20 am, police received a report of knives being stolen from a supermarket in the Kennedy Way area. The man had reportedly threatened staff with bolt cutters before leaving without paying.
Shortly after, reports were received of a man armed with knives approaching members of the public in the Teeling Avenue area of Dunmurry. "Thankfully, due to the fast work of officers the man was apprehended and disarmed, ensuring that no one was injured," said Chief Inspector Claire Hamilton.
The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of offences including possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, common assault, assault on police, and theft. He remains in police custody.
"Today's arrest was an example of good police work and highlights our dedication to keeping our communities safe," said Chief Inspector Hamilton.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dash-cam, or other footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 487 of 25/02/25.

A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. Police described the assault as "brutal and horrific". The 43-year-old suspect was detained in L'Derry on Tuesday, 15 August.
