Lurgan returning to normal after blaze at chemical unit
Lurgan town centre was returning to normal today following a fire at a chemical storeroom in the Co Armagh town over the weekend.
A fire and explosion at a storeroom on Watson's Lane on Saturday afternoon saw emergency services impose a 400-metre evacuation zone around the site.
Police closed off Lurgan town centre and evacuated houses and other buildings over fears that gas cylinders on the premises may cause widespread damage.
However, the area was declared safe at around lunchtime on Sunday and residents were allowed back into their homes overnight following a clear up operation.
