Police Investigate Potential Link Between Ards And Killyleagh Burglaries

Detectives are investigating two recent burglaries that took place in Newtownards and Killyleagh on Tuesday evening, 22nd April, and are exploring the possibility that they are linked.

A PSNI spokesperson stated that the first report was received at approximately 10:40 pm concerning a burglary in the South Street area of Newtownards. It is believed that entry to the house was gained by forcing a front door. Once inside, a number of rooms were ransacked, and valuables were stolen.

A short time later, at around 11:30 pm, police received a second report of a burglary at a house in the Cross Street area of Killyleagh. In this incident, entry was gained by three men armed with iron bars who forced their way in through the front of the property. Valuables were also reported stolen from this address.

The police spokesperson urged homeowners to prioritise security in their daily routines and advised against keeping large amounts of money at home or carrying it on their person. They highlighted that thieves may employ various tactics to learn the routines of residents and business owners.

The spokesperson also recommended regular security checks, ensuring doors and windows are secure, and verifying that alarms or security systems are functioning correctly. They suggested considering the installation of CCTV or doorbell cameras and investing in a dash-cam.

"Most importantly, if you see anything or anyone suspicious, or have any concerns that your business may be a target, contact police right away," the spokesperson emphasised.

Police enquiries into both burglaries are ongoing today, and detectives are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam, or other footage of the South Street area of Newtownards and the Cross Street area of Killyleagh from Tuesday evening. Anyone with information is asked to phone police on 101, quoting reference numbers 1680 and 1710 22/04/25.
