The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has announced its presence at the upcoming Balmoral Show, taking place from Wednesday, 14th May to Saturday, 17th May 2025.

Visitors to the DAERA stand will have the opportunity to engage with staff on a wide range of topics, including support for the agri-food and fishing sectors, initiatives to improve water quality and the environment, and efforts to support rural communities.

A key focus will be the new Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP), with details available on how it aims to promote sustainable farming practices, secure a positive future for agri-food, protect animal health, and restore the environment.

Staff will also be on hand to discuss the issue of blue-green algae, outlining actions being taken in partnership with other organisations and providing information on how the public can help improve water quality on coasts and in local towns. For younger visitors, DAERA has planned a range of interactive activities. These include using microscopes to identify beneficial and harmful bugs found in waterways, a magnetic game board to identify biosecurity threats on farms, and a ball maze board game at the Green Growth stand. Forest Service guides will also be present to educate on plant health and the insects that can damage plants and trees.

Those considering careers in food, agriculture, equine, or horticulture can speak with staff from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) for guidance on opportunities and available courses. The DAERA marine team will also be available to discuss Northern Ireland's coasts and marine life.

The DAERA stand will be located inside the Eikon Centre, towards the rear, and will be open from Wednesday through to Saturday.

Advice on a range of other issues will also be available from various other Government Departments and Agency staff participating in the exhibition.
