Two men, aged 23 and 20, who were arrested in connection with a stabbing incident in the Gallun area of Downpatrick on Monday evening, have been released on bail.

The arrests followed a report of a disturbance at around 6:25pm, which escalated into an altercation where one man sustained stab wounds. Sergeant Cameron confirmed that police and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene, and the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries not reported to be serious. The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, while the 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of threats to commit criminal damage to property.

Both men were initially held in custody to assist with enquiries. However, they have since been released on bail to allow for further police investigation. Detectives are continuing their enquiries and are appealing to anyone with information that might assist them to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1272 of 26/05/25.
