PHA Urges Eligible Individuals To Get Spring COVID-19 Vaccine

The Public Health Agency (PHA) is encouraging eligible individuals to receive their spring COVID-19 vaccination, as more than half of those invited have not yet taken up the offer.

As of May 11, 2025, 42,457 vaccinations have been administered this spring, with the highest uptake among care home residents (34.8%) and those aged 75 and over (24.8%). The spring vaccine is being offered to adults aged 75 or over, care home residents, and individuals aged 6 months and above who are immunosuppressed.

Rachel Spiers, Immunisation and Vaccination Programme Manager at the PHA, emphasised that while the programme runs until June 30th, vulnerable community members should not delay. She warned that respiratory viruses like COVID-19 remain in circulation and can be life-threatening for the most vulnerable, whose protection fades over time. Spiers urged all eligible individuals to get vaccinated as it is the "best way to protect yourself and others."

Eligible individuals will receive an appointment before the programme concludes. Vaccines are being administered by GPs, community pharmacies, and HSC Trusts. Community pharmacies will visit care homes, while those aged 75+ can expect an invite from their GP or can inquire at community pharmacies or HSC Trust clinics. Immunosuppressed individuals aged 18 and over will receive their vaccine via GPs, community pharmacies, and HSC Trusts, while those aged 6 months to 17 years will be vaccinated by HSC Trusts. Housebound patients will be identified by GPs, with HSC Trust vaccination teams administering their doses.
