Derry Playhouse favourite to land BBC prize
Having celebrated reaching the national final of BBC 'Restoration', the campaign team at The Playhouse in Derry said it was delighted to hear today that they are currently favourite to win the national final.
The Playhouse will be competing against the six other regional finalists, and the best runner-up of BBC 'Restoration', for the overall £2.5 million prize as well as the chance of restoring the Playhouse buildings to their former glory.
A group of 40 staff and supporters of The Playhouse is now getting ready for the big event, which will take place in Hampton Court Palace in London this coming Sunday.
Pauline Ross, director of The Playhouse, said: “This has been an historic week for The Playhouse. We are delighted to be representing Northern Ireland in the national final of BBC Restoration and while it is a real achievement to have got this far, we are going to make a determined effort to bring the title back home.
"In order to do that, we need the continued support of people right across Northern Ireland. We will be campaigning right up until the last minute, and we need people to telephone their votes this Friday, Saturday and Sunday and to encourage their friends, family and business contacts throughout England, Scotland and Wales to Vote Playhouse!”
The Playhouse Final Vote Telephone Number will be revealed during the Restoration update programme tonight on BBC2 at 10pm.
Lines will be open from 10pm on Friday to 10pm on Sunday. Calls cost 50p, with 34p going directly to the 'Restoration' fund.
